Discus Fish Breeding

Breeding Discus Fish Blog

Welcome to my Breeding Discus fish blog fellow Discus Enthusiast..

During the first quarter of 19th century, Europeans and Americans visiting Brazil discovered a new species of freshwater fish from the lakes of amazon with laterally compressed disc shape bodies and vibrant colors. Scientifically know as “Symphysodon discus“, a source of food for the native Brazilians soon became a popular aquarium fish in the European countries.

Discus were first imported into the United States and Europe in the 1930′s and 1940′s. These early efforts to ship and keep these fish proved exceptionally difficult and expensive. Only a dedicated and knowledgeable aquarist could successfully keep these fish. A lot has been discovered since then, and we are able to breed Discus even in aquariums now, something which was considered impossible in the past.

Withing these pages, you will find many articles and links to help you master the art of discus fish breeding and care.
